Wisconsin Museums

Museums are essential contributors to the vibrancy of communities throughout Wisconsin. “In 2017, the American Alliance of Museums partnered with Oxford Economics to study the museum sector’s significant contribution to the US economy (source: Oxford Economics, IMPLAN, 2017), which includes,

  • “The total financial impact that museums have on the economy in Wisconsin is $600 million

  • 9,444 Wisconsin jobs are supported by the museum industry each year, and $386 million in wages and other income to Wisconsin residents

  • Even though, many museums operate as nonprofits, they generated significant tax revenues to the federal, state, and local governments ($137 million estimated in 2017).”
